Today we have a treat for you. This is a quick camp teaser video that we rendered. It shows an approximation of what our front-of-house will look like at Burning Man 2026.
We have been using virtual worlds and 3D modeling apps to pre-visualize our art and camp builds for years. These tools have become invaluable. They allow us to get a better sense of how things will fit together. Specifically, this is helpful for when we build it on the playa. We love using technology to make art! The background is a full size model of the black rock desert and surrounding environment. We made it using USGS elevation data. Then, we created a scale model of the camp and key features in a program called Cinema 4D. The model includes shade structures and vehicles. Producing a teaser video for our camp before the big event is our idea of fun.
Design Evolution
As experienced designers, we not only rocked up the models, but we created the physically based materials so that things looked more photo-realistic. We love to use technology!
Over the last few decades, we have gone from drawings on bar napkins to cut paper and cardboard. Then we got more serious with wooden models, 3D modeling and everywhere in between. What started in programs like Illustrator and Photoshop has progressed to Sketchup, Autodesk Maya and now Maxon’s tools.
In the past we stuck to rendering still images, but this year we are trying to play around with animation. As you can see from the video, our camera skills need a little work. Producing a camp teaser video for your camp concept can be a great way to preview your project.
We can’t wait to do more playing around and create some more renders. Additionally, sharing a camp teaser video is an effective method for communicating our creative vision with others.
