Last month, the Burning Man Placement Team notified us that our camp (as well as the other camps in our hub) had been placed. That was exciting news, but now we have placement location! Atomic Octopus will be on Bodhi at approximately 3:15 for Burning Man 2026! Click here to check out this year’s city plan.
Placement Location Shifts Things Into High Gear
Exciting news spreads quickly around camp when we have placement location confirmed for the year. First of all, the Black Rock City Plan helps camps understand where they fit into the larger city and how neighborhoods come together across the playa. Things are getting very real. Placement helps camps coordinate infrastructure, power, shade structures, and interactive spaces. Furthermore, when we have placement location details in hand, campmates can begin planning arrival schedules, city navigation, and camp layout with much more confidence. As a result, preparation becomes easier and stress levels drop before heading to the desert.
In addition, having the placement location allows placed camps to work together with nearby neighbors and create stronger communities. Meanwhile, knowing we have placement location information helps organizers plan frontage, signage, and welcoming spaces for visitors. Most importantly, placement transforms an empty patch of playa into a future home filled with art, connection, and participation. Therefore, once we have placement location finalized, the countdown to building Black Rock City truly begins. After all, every placed camp becomes part of the living map that turns the desert into a temporary city each year.
Ramping Up The Art
We spent a lot of our time designing and building new art for Atomic Octopus. That work continues, as we have moved on from camp signs and bike racks and onto new art for checkers, decor for our front-of-house shade structure, and a rebuild of the time-traveling coffee bar (more on that later). We look forward to seeing you at Bodhi & 3:15!
