Once upon a time, deep beneath the sun-baked earth of the Black Rock Desert in northern Nevada, lived an octopus named Occo. Occo was no ordinary desert dweller. Thanks to a glowing, mysterious meteor that had crashed near his underground cavern, he was an atomic, mechanical octopus! His body was made of gleaming, riveted metal, complete with large brass goggles and eight super-strong, steam-powered tentacles. But more than anything, Occo loved to explore. His famous global adventures were known far and wide as the Occo Mundi. Today, he was setting out on his most ambitious journey yet. His ultimate goal was simple but daring: to see the words “Everest Achieved” written in the history books of the world.

Another Occo Mundi Adventure Begins
Early one Tuesday morning, while the desert sky was still painted in shades of pink and purple, Occo decided it was finally time to start his next great journey. He knew that if he wanted “Everest Achieved” to be the crowning jewel of the Occo Mundi, he would need to prepare carefully.
First, he packed his giant, vintage canvas backpack. It was a heavy-duty bag, crisscrossed with leather straps and loaded with essential gear. He packed plenty of dried cactus snacks, several coils of thick climbing rope, and specialized ice axes designed for his metallic grip. Next, he tunneled his way to the surface. He popped up right in the middle of the Nevada desert. This sent a shower of dry dust into the morning air.
As soon as he hit the open air, his atomic gears began to whir. Instead of flopping around like a normal octopus out of water, he zoomed forward like a race car on eight metallic wheels! His steam-powered joints hissed with excitement. Before long, he had zoomed all the way across the globe to the base of the mighty Himalayas. Now, he was ready for the ultimate chapter of the Occo Mundi.
The Snowy Climb
At first, the mountain seemed completely impossible. The wind howled like a hungry wolf, and the snow was as deep as a blue whale is long. The peak of Mount Everest was hidden behind thick, swirling clouds, as if the mountain was trying to hide from him. However, Occo was prepared. Using his heavy-duty mechanical tentacles, he gripped the icy rocks with ease. Every step forward was a step closer to getting “Everest Achieved” checked off his bucket list.
- First, he used four tentacles to anchor himself firmly into the ice with his climbing axes.
- Then, he used the other four to hoist his heavy backpack up the steep, slippery cliffs.
- Finally, he used his glowing brass goggles to spot the safest path through the blinding, white-out snow.
Along the way, he met a friendly human mountaineer named Barnaby. Barnaby was dressed in a bright red snowsuit and was taking a break near a large boulder. He had never seen a giant, mechanical octopus before, especially not one carrying a backpack bigger than his own!

“What are you doing up here, my metallic friend?” Barnaby asked, clipping his safety ropes to Occo’s sturdy, riveted frame.
Destination: Summit
“I’m climbing to the top for the Occo Mundi!” Occo chirped happily, his gears clicking with a friendly rhythm. “I won’t stop until I can say ‘Everest Achieved!’ Would you like a cactus snack?”
Barnaby took the dried cactus, looking at it curiously before taking a bite. He smiled. “Well, you’re certainly the most unique climber on this mountain. If you’re really aiming for ‘Everest Achieved’ today, follow me. I know a shortcut that avoids the worst of the wind.”
Reaching The Top – Everest Achieved
With Barnaby leading the way, the climb became much easier. They scrambled past giant, jagged boulders and leaped over deep, dark cracks in the ice that seemed to go down forever. Whenever Occo’s gears got cold and threatened to freeze, his atomic core gave him a sudden, fizzy burst of steam and speed. This propelled him upward.

The higher they climbed, the thinner the air got, but Occo didn’t need to breathe like a human did. His mechanical lungs simply filtered the thin mountain air and used it to cool his glowing atomic heart.
At last, after many hours of climbing, they reached the very top of the world. The view was absolutely breathtaking. Occo could see the entire world stretching out below him. The land was painted in shades of brilliant white, deep blue, and rocky green. The clouds were beneath their feet, looking like a soft, fluffy ocean.
“I did it!” Occo cheered, his gears clicking in a joyful, eight-legged dance. “Everest Achieved!”
He planted a little flag in the snow that said “Occo Mundi: Everest Achieved,” shared one last cactus snack with Barnaby, and began the long slide back down the mountain. After all, he had a long journey back to the Black Rock Desert to tell his underground friends all about it!
Another fun use for the tools is proving to invent a backstory or add some words to dress things up.
