Atomic Octopus is in no way, shape or form going to be a sound camp at Burning Man. There are no massive sound rigs. There aren’t even any tiny sound rigs. We do have a couple speakers to provide for a little music in our front-of-house space for guests to enjoy throughout the week. We’re also excited to feature some Occo Music Queen (that is, music from the band Queen) during the event.
There won’t be any DJ’s or live performers that we are aware of, but in an effort to curate a fun and wonderful atmosphere we have been working on a number of playlists and specially made mixes. And those playlists have, in turn, created another fun opportunity for art as we played around with generative tools to work on some cover art. Since that art won’t really be public-facing on the playa (it will live in the music player app on campmate devices), we figured that we would subsequently share some of those pieces here on the site.
Who Was Queen?
Queen remains one of the most influential rock bands in music history. If you have ever wondered, who was Queen?, the answer begins with four talented musicians who blended rock, pop, opera, hard rock, and theatrical performance into something completely unique. This Occo Music Queen playlist celebrates that incredible legacy and brings the band’s timeless energy to Atomic Octopus at Burning Man.
Four Musicians, One Legendary Sound
Queen formed in London in 1970 with Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon. Right from the beginning, the band refused to follow musical trends. Instead, they mixed powerful guitar riffs, rich vocal harmonies, catchy melodies, and unforgettable stage performances. As a result, Queen quickly built a worldwide audience that continues to grow today.
Freddie Mercury stood at the center of it all. His remarkable voice, larger-than-life personality, and fearless creativity turned every concert into an unforgettable event. Meanwhile, Brian May created a guitar sound that became instantly recognizable. Roger Taylor added energetic drumming and soaring harmonies, while John Deacon anchored every song with melodic bass lines and thoughtful songwriting.
Songs That Fill Stadiums
Over the years, Queen released an incredible collection of classic songs. Hits such as Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You, We Are the Champions, Somebody to Love, Don’t Stop Me Now, and Another One Bites The Dust remain popular with audiences of every generation.
Furthermore, Queen never stayed inside one musical style. One song might sound like heavy rock, while the next borrowed from opera, disco, funk, or even vaudeville. Consequently, every album offered new surprises and fresh ideas.
Music has always brought people together, especially at Burning Man. Therefore, an Occo Music Queen playlist feels like a perfect fit for Atomic Octopus. Queen’s songs inspire singing, dancing, and celebration while creating moments that strangers quickly share as friends.
Whether you know every lyric or discover these songs for the first time, Queen’s music still delivers excitement, joy, and pure rock-and-roll magic. That enduring spirit makes this Occo Music Queen playlist an ideal soundtrack for adventure, creativity, and unforgettable nights beneath the desert stars.
Playing with generative tools, we soon discovered that most AI models know the band Queen quite well. Without any additional material from us, we were able to get pretty convincing results. It passes our test for fun and whimsical, and certainly does the job of being playlist cover art. Check out covers we did for disco, retro, ambient and ska playlists, Trilo’s mixes, as well as the music of David Bowie, U2, Tipper, Depeche Mode, Earth Wind & Fire, Fatboy Slim, Underworld, Garbage and Muse.
